Why use OPTiMUM diamond coated probe?

The OPTiMUM diamond probe can be used in demanding applications and provides long-lasting scanning performance. When scanning workpieces, diamond coated measuring balls can maintain their roundness and are not affected by material "accumulation" or premature wear. Diamond coated measuring needles have many advantages, including extending their service life and reducing downtime caused by recalibration and inspection.

Renishaw has over 40 years of experience in producing measuring needles, which is why our OPTiMUM diamond measuring needle can support our customers' growing demand for high-speed scanning measurements. The ceramic measuring ball is coated with a diamond coating with a thickness of about 0.03 mm, and then polished using highly complex processes.

Avoid premature wear of the measuring needle

When scanning on hard or rough surfaces, the interaction between the workpiece and the measuring ball material can cause friction and wear. If a ruby measuring ball is used during scanning, tiny residual particles from the surface of the workpiece may cause small scratches on both the measuring ball and the workpiece surface.

The OPTiMUM diamond measuring needle's measuring ball is extremely wear-resistant and can maintain its shape after scanning rough surfaces.

No material accumulation

When scanning soft surfaces such as aluminum, some material may accumulate on the measuring ball. When using a ruby measuring ball to scan aluminum metal, the two materials will adhere to each other and transfer from the softer surface to the harder surface. This means that aluminum metal will adhere to the surface of the ruby measuring ball, causing changes in the shape of the measuring ball, and also requiring frequent replacement of the measuring needle.

Using OPTiMUM diamond measuring needles, accumulated material will not adhere to the measuring ball, and even if there is a small amount of material residue, it can be easily erased.

Designed according to customer requirements, diamond coated measuring needles can be matched with various thread sizes and rod materials, with sphere sizes ranging from 1.5 mm to 8 mm to suit your specific application.

The OPTiMUM diamond probe is independently designed and manufactured by Renishaw to ensure fast delivery and high quality standards.

With REVO ® All OPTiMUM diamond probes used with the RSP2 scanning probe have been tested by Renishaw to ensure that the fine tuning parameters used by the REVO system to control resonance are effective for the probes.
