The fluctuations induced by the FX-3 ferroalloy probe indicate burial investigations of the Earth's magnetic field, pipelines and casings, valves, iron artifacts, septic tanks, and other ferromagnetic (iron or steel) objects. Because this is a differential induction magnetometer, the FX-3 is located far beyond the conventional stranded coil (search coil type) metal detector that can detect buried iron objects. Like other Fisher detectors, FX-3 is easy to operate. It weighs only 1.14 kilograms and provides motion detection (the tube probe must move to detect the target). When the two sensors of FX-3 touch a large black object, the strength of the FX-3 signal will increase with the distance and quantity of the object being measured. FX-3 is extremely sensitive to large areas of iron like objects, highly magnetized objects, and objects buried directly in the ground.
