  Atomic absorption spectrophotometerIt is a new type of instrument that emerged in the mid-1950s and gradually developed thereafter. This method determines the content of the measured element in a sample based on the absorption intensity of its atomic resonance radiation by the ground state atoms in the vapor phase. It has a wide range of applications in various fields such as geology, metallurgy, machinery, chemical engineering, agriculture, food, light industry, biomedicine, environmental protection, and materials science.
  
The atomic absorption spectrophotometer includes the following components, and the functions of each component are briefly described as follows:
  
1. Stable sharp line light source
  
It can emit resonance lines of the element under test. The light source is generally made of a hollow cathode lamp made of the element to be tested. The emitted light of the lamp is modulated into alternating current by electrical modulation or light cutting device, and then demodulated and detected by an amplifier to distinguish it from the direct current radiation of the flame.
  
2. Atomizer
  
It converts the solution into atomic vapor, commonly used in flames and graphite furnaces. The air acetylene flame is commonly used in flames, while the * - acetylene flame is used for high-temperature elements.
  
3. Monochromator
  
Plays a role in separating resonance lines and focusing them on the photomultiplier tube.
  
4. Photomultiplier tube
  
It can detect the intensity of incident light energy, followed by an amplifier and readout device.
  
5. Amplifier
  
It amplifies the signal emitted by the photomultiplier tube through demodulation, converts it into a logarithmic signal, and provides it to the recording system. This process includes demodulation lamp signal amplification, logarithmic conversion, automatic zeroing, range expansion, and curve straightening.
  
6. Recording system
  
Including meter readings, recorders, digital displays, digital printing, and telegraphic typing.
  
When operating, first absorb the blank solution into the flame, adjust the instrument to zero, and the corresponding light emitted by the hollow cathode lamp is 100%, that is, the absorbance is 0 (A=0). When spraying a solution containing the element to be tested, some of the light is absorbed, and the light intensity decreases. Record the absorbance value A on the meter head, and draw a standard curve using the standard solution of the element to be tested. From this, the content of the element in the unknown sample can be calculated.
  
Operation steps of atomic absorption spectrophotometer:
  
1. Connect the power, turn on the instrument switch, open the sample chamber cover, and preheat for 10 minutes.
  
2. Set the sensitivity switch to the "1" position (if the zero point adjuster cannot be adjusted to "0", a higher gear should be selected).
  
3. Rotate the wavelength selection knob according to the desired wavelength.
  
4. Pour the blank solution and the measuring solution into 3/4 of the colorimetric cup, clean the outer wall with a lens wiping paper, and place them in the sample chamber to align the blank tube with the optical path.
  
5. Adjust the zero point adjuster while the dark box cover is open, so that the reading dial pointer points to t=0.
  
6. Cover the dark box lid, adjust the "100" adjuster to make the t=100 of the blank tube. After the pointer stabilizes, gradually pull out the sample slide rod, read out the optical density values of the measuring tube, and record them.
  
7. After the color comparison is completed, turn off the power, take out the color comparison dish and wash it. Clean the sample chamber with a soft cloth or paper.
