Atomic absorption spectrometer is an instrument for detecting the types of elements. Atomic absorption refers to the absorption phenomenon of characteristic spectral lines radiated by atoms of the same type in a gaseous state. When radiation is projected onto atomic vapor, if the energy corresponding to the wavelength of the radiation is equal to the energy required for the atomic absorption spectrometer to transition from the ground state to the excited state, it will cause the atoms to absorb the radiation and produce an absorption spectrum. The ground state atoms absorb energy, and the outer electrons undergo transitions from low-energy states to excited states. The instrument emits light with characteristic spectral lines of the tested element from the light source, which is absorbed by the ground state atoms of the tested element in the vapor when passing through the sample. The content of the tested element in the sample is determined by the degree to which the radiation characteristic spectral lines are attenuated.
  
Atomic absorption spectroscopy can measure multiple elements, flame atomic absorption spectroscopy can measure on the order of 10-9g/mL, and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy can measure on the order of 10-13g/mL. Its hydride generator can perform micro trace determination of eight volatile elements, including mercury, arsenic, lead, selenium, tin, tellurium, antimony, germanium, etc. It has been widely used for constant and trace element analysis in metallurgy, geology, mining, petroleum, light industry, agriculture, medicine, health, food, and environmental monitoring.
