SICK encoder

SICK encoder converts displacement into periodic electrical signals, and then converts this electrical signal into counting pulses, using the number of pulses to represent the magnitude of displacement. Each position of the encoder corresponds to a specific digital code, so its indication is only related to the starting and ending positions of the measurement, and not to the intermediate process of the measurement.

Due to the significant advantage of encoders over incremental encoders in positioning, they have been increasingly applied in industrial control positioning. Due to its high precision and large number of output bits, if parallel output is still used, each output signal of the encoder must be well connected. For more complex working conditions, isolation is also required, and there are many cable cores connected, which brings many inconveniences and reduces reliability. Therefore, in multi bit output type encoders, serial output or bus output are generally used. SSI (synchronous serial output) is commonly used for serial output of encoders produced in Germany.
