KIPP ZONEN SGR3 longwave radiation meterWorking Principle:
The radiation from the sun is mainly in the 'short wave' range of 300-4000nm (4um), which includes the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared parts of the spectrum. Part of this radiation is absorbed by clouds, aerosols, and molecules in the atmosphere, which preheat and emit longwave radiation. This is the far infrared thermal energy (FIR) with wavelengths ranging from 4.5um to over 40um.
When both shortwave and longwave radiation reach Earth at the same time, a portion of it is reflected, while the remaining portion heats the ground, and then the Earth radiates longwave thermal energy back into the sky. Shortwave radiation is measured through a solar radiation meter and a longwave radiation meter.
A wavelength radiometer provides a voltage proportional to the exchange of radiation between an instrument and the sky (or ground). The detector signal output can be positive or negative. In order to calculate the input or output FIR, it is necessary to know the temperature of the longwave radiation meter housing, and the data must be recorded simultaneously with the detector signal.
-KIPP ZONEN SGR3 longwave radiation meterInstrument features:
SGR3 has Modbus capability ® Interface, enhanced analog output, improved response time, and temperature corrected measurement data. Solar longwave net radiation and downward radiation can be transmitted through Modbus ® Directly obtained. The power range is from 5 to 30VDC, suitable for the integration of meteorological and solar power plants. SGR3 is very powerful and comes with a 5-year warranty (*).
The base of the instrument includes mounting holes for a level and leveling feet used for precise leveling. For ease of installation, replacement, and recalibration, the instrument is equipped with waterproof connectors. The improved temperature dependence and directional response make these instruments ideal choices for meteorological and agricultural applications. Thanks to each standardized output and connection, the replacement of instrument calibration becomes easy. SmartExplorer Windows with standard configuration ™ Software for data recording, data display, and Modbus ® Address setting.
