The SMPS Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer is a nanoparticle size analysis system composed of DMA+PCC or DMA+FCE, used for particle analysis from 5nm to 1100nm.

DMA (Differential Mobility Analyzer) is used to classify particulate matter. To reduce the interference of large particles, coarse particles are removed through a cutting head. At the same time, to eliminate the influence of charge on aerosol particles, it is recommended to install an electrostatic neutralizer in advance. The top entrance of DMA is designed in a U-shape to reduce particle loss; The top is equipped with a laminar flow device, allowing the airflow to flow in a laminar state. Clean and dry protective sheath gas flows together with aerosol airflow from top to bottom. The outer sleeve of DMA is grounded, and the central pole is connected to a positive pressure high-voltage generator. Particles with negative charges in the environmental particles will migrate in the electric field between the outer sleeve and the central pole. At a certain voltage (corresponding to a certain electric field strength), negatively charged particles with a certain charge to mass ratio will migrate to the lower slit of DMA and escape, while the remaining charge to mass ratios and their electrically neutral and positively charged particles will be filtered and discharged with the excess airflow. The particles escaping through the slit are monodisperse aerosol particles, which enter the CPC Condensation Particle Counters or FCE Faraday Electrostatic Precipitator to count the particles.

The software controls the voltage scanning mode, which can achieve scanning and detection of the concentration distribution of particles with different sizes. Therefore, it is called a scanning electric mobility particle size spectrometer. Its particle size resolution is very high, and it can reach 256 particle size channels within the measurable particle size range. Two different DMAs can be used to measure particle size ranges of 5-350nm and 10-1100nm, respectively; CPC adopts a single particle counting mode with a concentration of up to 15000 P/cm3, and can measure concentrations up to 107 P/cm3 using a photometer mode. Therefore, the measured concentration of SMPS can reach 108 P/cm3.

The system has a fixed monitoring SMPS system and a mobile SMPS system, and the measurement range of particle size varies depending on DMA or CPC.
