ELTRA Optical Encoder


A rotary encoder is used to measure the engraved lines of a photoelectric encoder during rotation to obtain the encoding. When the rotation exceeds 360 degrees, the encoding returns to the origin, which does not comply with the encoding principle. This encoding can only be used for measurements within a rotation range of 360 degrees, and is called an encoder.

The ELTRA encoder is encoded by mechanical position determination, which does not require memory, reference points, or continuous counting. It reads its position whenever it needs to be known. In this way, the anti-interference characteristics of the encoder and the reliability of the data are greatly improved. There are many optical channel markings on the encoder optical encoder disc, and each marking is sequentially marked with 2 lines, 4 lines, 8 lines, 16 lines...... Arranging, in this way, at each position of the encoder, a set of binary codes (Gray codes) from the zero power of 2 to the n-1 power of 2 is obtained by reading the on/off of each engraved line, which is called an n-bit encoder.

The types of encoders can be classified in the following ways:
1. Classify according to the different ways of engraving holes on the code wheel
The principle of the type encoding encoder is to correspond to one circle, and each reference angle emits a binary value corresponding to that angle. Multiple positions can be recorded and measured through external recording devices.
(2) Incremental encoder: The principle of an incremental encoder is to emit a pulse signal (also known as sine and cosine signals, which are then subdivided to produce higher frequency pulses) every unit angle rotated. It is usually output in phases A, B, and Z, with phases A and B being delayed by 1/4 cycle. The delay relationship can be used to distinguish between forward and reverse directions, and the rising and falling edges of phases A and B can be multiplied by 2 or 4 times; The Z-phase is a single cycle pulse, which means one pulse is emitted per cycle.
2. Classified by mechanical installation form of encoder
(1) Axial type: Axial type can be divided into clamping flange type, synchronous flange type, servo installation type, etc.
(2) Shaft sleeve type: Shaft sleeve types can be divided into semi empty, fully empty, and large-diameter types.
3. According to the output type of the signal, it can be divided into voltage output, open collector output, push-pull complementary output, and long line drive output.
4. According to the working principle of encoders, they can be divided into photoelectric, magneto electric, and contact brush types.

The Italian ELTRA encoder is determined by the mechanical position of each position, without the need for memory, reference points, or continuous counting. Due to the significant advantage of encoders over incremental encoders in positioning, they have been increasingly applied in industrial control positioning. Due to its high precision and large number of output bits, if parallel output is still used, each output signal of the encoder must be well connected. For more complex working conditions, isolation is also required, and there are many cable cores connected, which brings many inconveniences and reduces reliability. Therefore, in multi bit output type, encoders generally choose serial output or bus output. The serial output of the encoder produced in Germany is SSI (synchronous serial output).

Encoder: Encoder manufacturers use the principle of clock gear machinery. When the central encoder rotates, another set of encoders (or multiple sets of gears, multiple sets of encoders) is transmitted through gears. On the basis of single circle encoding, the number of circles is added to expand the measurement range of the encoder. This type of encoder is called an encoder, which is also determined by mechanical position encoding. Each position encoding is not repeated and does not need to be memorized. Another advantage of multi turn encoders is that due to their large measurement range, they often have more flexibility in practical use. This way, there is no need to struggle to find the zero point during installation, and a certain middle position can be used as the starting point, greatly simplifying the difficulty of installation and debugging. Encoders have obvious advantages in length positioning and have been increasingly applied in industrial control positioning.
