The working principle of ZeeLung
ZeeLung technology uses a breathable medium to transfer oxygen to the biofilm attached to the surface of the medium. Oxygen is transferred to the biofilm through diffusion rather than bubbles. Therefore, the energy consumption generated by oxygen transfer is four times lower than that of microporous aeration. Pollutants such as ammonia and organic matter diffuse from the bulk solution into the biofilm, and bacteria in the biofilm have the best conditions to remove them.
This product is a reinforcing medium whose yarn core supports multiple breathable filaments. This structure is called a 'core', which is both flexible and unbreakable. Multiple cores are encapsulated in top and bottom manifolds to form modules, which are then installed in steel frames to form membrane boxes. The membrane box is deployed in the mixed solution of the bioreactor. Low pressure air is delivered to the membrane box to transfer oxygen and mix the system.

Installing the ZeeLung membrane box into the activated sludge reactor can increase the total biomass in the system without increasing the concentration of the mixed solution. Therefore, under the condition of constant volume, the processing capacity of the reactor is improved.
Compared with traditional activated sludge and biofilm processes, the interaction between oxygen and pollutants in the ZeeLung system is different. Using ZeeLung, oxygen and substrate (such as ammonia and organic matter) enter the biofilm through reverse diffusion from opposite sides. This creates favorable conditions for the growth of nitrifying bacteria in biofilms.
This is because, compared to organic substrates, ammonia has higher diffusion into biofilms, and the dissolved oxygen content on the surface of the medium reaches its highest level. The advantageous growth of nitrifying bacteria and heterotrophic organisms means that ZeeLung biofilm can increase nitrification in activated sludge systems. Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification can be achieved by installing ZeeLung membrane boxes in hypoxic areas.
The ZeeLung membrane box can be directly deployed into existing storage tanks with minimal impact on existing equipment and operations. This makes ZeeLung an economically efficient multifunctional solution that helps improve factory performance.
