The current situation of plate heat exchangers indicates that stainless steel and titanium plates dominate the selection of plate material for plate heat exchangers. However, the challenge faced by stainless steel is that it is difficult to overcome the drawbacks of crevice corrosion, bacterial growth on the surface of the plate, and relatively low heat transfer efficiency under high concentration chloride ion water quality in the short term. Production enterprises choosing titanium as the material for plate heat exchanger plates are also troubled by tight supply of titanium materials, dependence on imports, high prices, and long delivery times, resulting in a dilemma of plate corrosion and high initial product costs in the current application of plate heat exchanger products. In the contradiction between technology and economic issues, it is difficult for users to have a compromise choice.
The development of copper alloy plate heat exchangers provides a great cost-effective product choice for customers. Since 2005, in order to enhance the scientific research and innovation capabilities of the copper processing industry, the Copper Industry Association (China) has reached a consensus with the Heat Exchanger Branch Technical Committee of the National Boiler and Pressure Vessel Standardization Technical Committee, mobilizing the resources of domestic heat exchanger manufacturers and large copper processing plants, fully utilizing the obvious advantages of copper alloy materials such as good corrosion resistance, high thermal conductivity, and outstanding antibacterial properties compared to stainless steel and titanium alloys, and jointly developing copper alloy plate heat exchangers. After 3 years of continuous research and experimentation, we explored the combination of copper alloy and plate heat exchanger applications, and completed the research and development of copper alloy sheets suitable for plate heat exchangers, the manufacturing of copper alloy plate heat exchangers, and the study of corrosion resistance. In 2008, we finally developed an innovative copper alloy plate heat exchanger (CAPHE) with our own intellectual property rights.
