The Harmony series freight electric locomotives are a new generation of AC drive freight locomotives developed by CSR Group and CNR Group in cooperation with foreign enterprises, introducing and digesting technology, and localizing it domestically. It is divided into Harmony 1, 2, and 3 types with each axis of 1200KW (Type 1 and 2 are eight axis (excluding HXD2B and HXD2C), and Type 3 is six axis), as well as Harmony 1B, 2B, and 3B generations with six axes and each axis of 1600KW. The designed high speed is 120KM/h.

HXD1 (DJ4) electric locomotive is one of the freight electric locomotive types of China's state-owned railways.

This locomotive is one of the products jointly developed by Chinese and foreign companies. Before being named the "Harmony" type, it was called DJ4. There are two styles of DJ4, which were developed by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive and Siemens in Germany, with numbers starting from 0001; The other one was developed by Datong Electric Locomotive and Alstom in France, with serial numbers starting from 6001. Both locomotives use AC traction motors, AC-DC-AC transmission, and dual machine coupling. The single machine axle type is Bo Bo, which means there are two axle bogies at the front and rear.

This locomotive is based on the EuroSprinter series technology platform and adopts SIBAS32 control system, SIBAC 1800 14SP2ST01 IGBT power module traction inverter, MVB and WTB technologies. The pantograph uses the TSG15 model manufactured by Zhuzhou Jiufang Electrical Equipment, and its technology is provided by MWW, a subsidiary of Siemens.

These high-power locomotives will mainly be used to haul freight trains and will be high-power AC freight electric locomotives. The locomotives manufactured in Zhuzhou were manufactured on November 8, 2006, with the serial numbers DJ40001A and 0001B. In the early days of production, the media referred to them as the "Shenlong". Shortly after leaving the factory, the first two sets of locomotives were renamed as "Harmony Type" (HXD) and their numbers were changed to HXD10xxx.

All of these locomotives are used on the Daqin Railway to haul coal freight trains. As of the end of 2007, Zhuzhou Factory had produced over 120 HXD1 locomotives, of which 110 were manufactured in 2007.

In November 2008, * cancelled orders for 40 HXD1 locomotives and demanded that Zhuzhou immediately cease production of this type of locomotive.
