History of Quantum Devices
Quantum Devices Corporation (QDI), located in Barneveld, Wisconsin, was founded in October 1989 and is a Wisconsin based company that is a product of activities in the general field of optoelectronics. Ron Ignatius, the founder of Quantum Devices, is a forward thinking thinker in the silicon manufacturing and light emitting diode (LED) technology industries. Ron's passion for photovoltaic technology began in the early 1970s in the solar cell industry in the Greater Chicago area. This led Ron to manage a silicon foundry in Central Wisconsin before embarking on his own adventure at the age of 50.
In the early days, Quantum Devices focused on LED technology and packaged it into systems for the medical industry. With early success, Quantum Devices established its headquarters in Barneveld, Wisconsin. One of these breakthroughs is encoder photodiode technology. At first, this technology was not widely accepted in the industry. Therefore, in the true Ron way, 'If the encoder company doesn't want to use our sensing technology, we will.'
In 1999, Quantum Devices became an encoder manufacturer. The early growth contributed to the basic reading of 5000 lines of encoders in the 1.5-inch package industry. From these early stages, Quantum Devices has developed products suitable for incremental optical encoders to adapt to various industries and applications.
