Overview

The KXR-20A Transformer DC Resistance Tester is designed for testing the winding of a five column low-voltage corner connected transformer with an iron core. It uses the method of high and low voltage series excitation for testing. The instrument automatically connects the auxiliary magnetic circuit of the winding internally, which can quickly and accurately test the DC resistance of the low-voltage winding.

Instructions for use

  • power supply

This instrument provides two types of power sources for testing: AC220V/DC12V. In the case of strong electromagnetic field interference, it is recommended to use a DC power supply for testing. The values tested in this state are stable and have strong resistance to power frequency.

  • DC power test: Turn on the power switch, select the corresponding gear, the gear indicator light will turn on, press the "start stop" button to start the test. After the test is completed, turn off the main power switch, discharge for 10-15 seconds, and then switch to the test clip for retesting. (When testing after pressing the "start stop" button, shifting to other gears will be prohibited and must be done after stopping the test)
  • AC power test: Connect the AC 220V power supply, the "charging" indicator light flashes, select the corresponding gear, the gear indicator light lights up, press the "start stop" button to start the test. After the test is completed, turn off the main power switch, discharge for 10-15 seconds, and then switch to the test clip for retesting.
  • Charging: Connect to an AC 220V power supply, and the "charging" indicator light flashes, indicating that the rechargeable battery inside the device is being charged. The indicator light stays on when the battery is fully charged. The instrument can also be charged at any time based on the "battery level indicator" when using DC power. The instrument uses AC power to test and also charges the internal battery. (The instrument is designed with a charging protection circuit to prevent overcharging.)
  • Connection method of test line:

Connect the I+, V+, V -, and I - terminals of the instrument to the test sample according to the method shown in Figure 1. This connection method can eliminate the contact resistance at points A, B, C, and D, as well as the influence of wire resistance on measurement. The measured value is the resistance Rx between B and C (note: do not reverse between B and C).

In use, if the length of the test wire that comes with the instrument is not sufficient, a wire with a diameter equivalent can be used to extend the test wire.

  • Measurement:

The instrument displays "E0000" on the meter head when the circuit is not properly connected. After connecting the measuring wire according to the method in Figure 1, select the desired resistance level based on the size of the measured value, press the switch for that level, and the indicator light for that level will light up. The stable value displayed on the four and a half digit LCD is the measured resistance value. Please pay attention to the units on the selected range when reading values. When measuring large inductance samples such as power transformers, other coils outside the testing circuit that do not need to be measuredShort circuit it to avoid electromagnetic interference.

  • Discharge:

After the test is completed, the main power can be directly turned off. If it is an inductive test sample, the wire should not be disconnected immediately after turning off the power, and the instrument should have a continuous discharge process. Generally, discharge for at least 20 seconds, otherwise the back electromotive force of the inductor may endanger personal safety.
