Working Principle:
When ultrasound propagates in a flowing fluid, it carries information about the fluid velocity. Therefore, by receiving ultrasonic waves, the flow velocity of the fluid can be detected and converted into flow rate. Ultrasonic pulses pass through pipelines from one sensor to another, like a ferryman crossing a river. When gas is not flowing, sound pulses propagate in two directions at the same speed (sound velocity, C). If the gas in the pipeline has a certain velocity V (which is not equal to zero), the sound pulses along the flow direction will be transmitted faster, while the sound pulses against the flow direction will be transmitted slower. In this way, the downstream transmission time t ₁ will be shorter, while the upstream transmission time t ₂ will be longer. What is referred to here as longer or shorter is compared to the non flowing transmission time of the gas; According to the detection method, ultrasonic flow meters can be divided into different types such as propagation velocity difference method, Doppler method, beam offset method, noise method, and correlation method.
