MPO connectors are becoming increasingly popular as they can bring many advantages to high-speed network operators, owners, and engineering maintenance companies. They are used to connect links, provide highly sensitive services and data to customers, achieve high-speed interconnection, and form redundancy.
An increasing number of telecommunications companies are transforming their data centers into data centers (CORDs) and deploying MPO optical cables with 12 fibers, and more and more with 24 fibers. If not tested correctly, multi-core links can put the overall health of the network at risk. If not properly validated, CORD operators may ultimately have to disconnect critical lines while conducting fault diagnosis.

EXFO
The ConnectorMax MPO link testing solution combines the three basic tests required for verifying MPO fiber optic cables - polarity, continuity, and connector cleanliness - into one automated solution. It deploys a light source at one end of the fiber optic cable and a fiber optic end face detector at the other end for analysis, which belongs to the industry. This solution combines the EXFO EF ConnectorMax multi-core fiber source with the EXFO EF ConnectorMax fiber endface detector to provide a fast and easy-to-use solution for verifying the polarity type, continuity, and connector cleanliness of MPO fiber links. It can fit the purpose and help our customers successfully complete network testing and deployment tasks in one go - improving deployment speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Due to the fact that many customers already have EXFO fiber end face detectors, this solution is very cost-effective. This excellent MPO detection tool not only benefits on-site technicians greatly, eliminating the primary cause of network failures (connector contamination), but also allows technicians to perform polarity and continuity checks on the link almost simultaneously with detecting the fiber end face.
The test results can be uploaded to ConnectorMax analysis software, a mobile application that provides clear and concise pass/fail status and reporting functions, allowing technicians to easily conduct these three types of tests on site and view the results.

Verify polarity, continuity, and connector cleanliness

Verify polarity type
During installation, MPO connectors must be aligned and connected correctly - it's not as simple as it sounds. Ensuring the correct polarity of MPO fiber optic cables is crucial, but management can be very complex as there are multiple polarity schemes available for these connectors, and polarity reversal may occur during connection and installation. Polarity verification is particularly critical for installing new MPO connectors, and polarity reconstruction can be achieved on-site. Verifying the polarity type ensures that the signal path meets the expected requirements and that the correct transmitter will communicate with the correct receiver.

Confirm continuity
Confirming the continuity of the link ensures that there are no breaks and that the light can be transmitted smoothly to the end of the tested link. This is a fast fiber optic cable continuity test, which can save potential troubleshooting time in the future during installation.

Detecting connectors
Due to the fact that contaminated connectors are the "culprits" of network failures, connector detection is an optimal test. Poor quality connectors are the main cause of loss in optical cables and short links with a length of no more than 5 kilometers, which can have a greater impact on MPO links. A dirty or damaged connector may affect 12 or even 24 optical fibers.
