Asphalt Brittle Point Tester LS-1 Type
The LS-1 Asphalt Brittle Point Tester produced by Hebei Hongyu Instrument Equipment Co., Ltd. is designed and manufactured according to the requirements of T0613 "Asphalt Brittle Point Test (Fras Method)" in the industry standard JTJ052 "Test Code for Asphalt and Asphalt Mixtures in Highway Engineering". It is suitable for measuring the Fras Brittle Point of asphalt materials.
This test instrument is a specially designed metal sheet coated with a layer of asphalt film. The metal sheet is bent by a handle inside an insulation cylinder equipped with a cooling device. As the temperature decreases, the temperature of the asphalt film gradually decreases. When it reaches a certain temperature, the temperature at which the asphalt film breaks under the specified bending conditions (displayed by an alcohol thermometer) is the brittle point of the asphalt.

The insulation cylinder is a double-layer glass cylinder used to hold a fixed mixture of carbon dioxide (dry ice) and ethanol as a cooling device. The lower clamp and upper clamp are used to fix the metal sheet.
The fixed rod and movable rod are made of laminated wood, which overcomes some of the drawbacks of metal tubes, such as changes in instrument performance caused by lubrication, corrosion, temperature, and other factors.
The base, guide rail, slider, handle and other parts are used to change the axial position of the fixed rod and movable rod, causing the metal sheet to bend. The curved glass tube (long and short) is used for vacuuming and supplementing dry air.

1. Wipe the instrument clean and make it transparent to observe the changes in the sample during the experiment.
2. Heat and melt the asphalt sample, dehydrate it, and cool it down. Weigh the asphalt sample with a weight equivalent to 0.4 cubic centimeters and place it in a drying cylinder to heat it up. The asphalt should be melted and coated evenly on a metal sheet with a thickness of 0.5 millimeters. Then let the steel sheet coated with asphalt cool at room temperature for 1 hour.
3. Remove the rubber stopper and place an appropriate amount of solid carbon dioxide and ethanol mixture (or acetone) in the insulation cylinder as it is.
4. The removed rubber stopper (fixed in the overall device of the stopper) is carefully clamped between the upper and lower clamps of the instrument with the steel sheet coated with asphalt.
5. Install the small rubber stopper and other accessories, assemble them as they are, and insert the thermometer into the top circular hole of the movable rod.
6. Adjust the cooling rate inside the thermos bottle by extracting air to reduce it by 1 ° C per minute.
7. When the temperature drops to the expected brittle point temperature of * ° C, the handle of the instrument begins to swing. The speed of the swing handle is controlled at 5 revolutions per minute. At this time, the slider rises from the * step to the second step, with a height difference of 3.5 millimeters. The steel plate also bends into an arch shape. Then, the handle is swung back to its original position (* step) at this speed, and the steel plate is straightened.
Repeat the following steps for each degree decrease in temperature.
8. The temperature at which cracks appear in the specimen is the brittle point of the asphalt sample.
