mechb2bIndustry NewsSummer Maintenance | High Temperature Protection Techniques for Extruders, Avoiding Malfunctions and Ensuring Stable Production
Entering the height of summer, the ambient temperature continues to rise, and the workshop has been in a state of high temperature for a long time.
As the core equipment of plastic production, the extruder is prone to problems such as high oil temperature, motor overheating, insufficient cooling, oil circuit failure, and abnormal plasticization due to long-term high load operation and external high temperature. These problems can affect product quality in mild cases and cause equipment shutdown and component damage in severe cases, directly disrupting production plans and resulting in capacity loss.
  Tips sharing
To assist our customers in summer equipment maintenance, Jiangsu Feige Youlian Machinery Co., Ltd., based on years of equipment research and on-site service experience, shares a set of high-temperature special protection and maintenance techniques for extruders. Starting from four dimensions: heat dissipation, oil circuit, electrical, and daily inspection, it is easy to implement and comprehensively protects the smooth operation of equipment.
  1、 Optimize the cooling environment
Reduce the overall temperature of the machine from the source

  1. Ensure smooth ventilation
Clean up the stacking around the extruder body, barrel, motor, and distribution cabinetraw materialReserve sufficient ventilation space for cardboard boxes and miscellaneous items; The workshop can be ventilated by opening windows, and during high temperature periods, industrial fans and negative pressure fans can be used to enhance air circulation and avoid the accumulation of hot air.
  2. Stay away from heat source areas
Maintain a safe distance between the equipment and high-temperature facilities such as heating furnaces, ovens, and steam pipelines to reduce the accumulation of heat radiation and temperature rise; Outdoor or semi open workshops can be equipped with sunshades to avoid direct sunlight on the machine body and electrical control cabinet.
  3. Regularly clean the heat dissipation components
The surfaces of the motor cooling fan, cooling fins, and condenser are prone to dust and plastic debris, which can hinder heat dissipation. It is recommended to perform daily pre/post shift blowing and cleaning to ensure that the heat dissipation components are unobstructed and free of dust accumulation, fully utilizing the heat dissipation efficiency.
  2、 Maintenance of oil system
Eliminate high oil temperature faults

  1. Strictly control hydraulic oil/lubricating oilLiquid level and quality
Check the oil level in the fuel tank daily to ensure that it is within the standard range. If the oil level is too low, it will exacerbate the rise in oil temperature; Regularly inspect the condition of oil products. If there is blackening, thinning, emulsification, or odor, immediately replace with specialized oil products suitable for high temperature models in summer. Mixing different grades of oil is strictly prohibited.
  2. Strengthen the inspection and maintenance of the cooler
water-cooledoil coolerIt is necessary to check the inlet and outlet water pipelines daily to ensure smooth water flow, no leakage or blockage; Regularly disassembling and cleaning the scale and impurities on the inner wall of the cooling water pipe can significantly reduce the heat transfer efficiency and cause the oil temperature to remain high. The air-cooled cooler focuses on cleaning the dust accumulation on the fins.
  3. Control continuous operation load
Avoid prolonged full load uninterrupted operation of equipment in high temperature environments. Reasonably arrange intermittent shutdowns according to the production rhythm, reserve heat dissipation time for the oil circuit and body, and prevent problems such as pressure relief, unstable pressure, and action jamming caused by excessive oil temperature.
  3、 Electrical system protection
Prevent high temperature leakage, tripping, and burning

  1. Special protection for electrical control cabinet
The door of the electrical control cabinet should be kept tightly closed to prevent dust and moisture from entering; The cooling fan inside the cabinet must ensure normal operation, and the operating status should be checked daily. In high-temperature and high humidity workshops, dehumidification and heat dissipation devices can be installed inside the cabinets to prevent line short circuits, contactor adhesion, and frequency converter alarm tripping.
  2. Inspection of main motor and drive components
Pay attention to the sound of the motor running and the temperature of the body during operation. If there is any abnormal overheating, abnormal noise, or shaking, immediately stop the machine for troubleshooting. Regularly add high-temperature lubricating grease to the motor bearings to avoid bearing locking and wear under high temperature.
  3. Inspection of Lines and Wiring Terminals
High temperatures can accelerate the aging of cable sheaths. Daily inspections of the main circuit and control wiring harnesses should be conducted to check for any cracking, loosening, or heating of the sheaths; Tighten all wiring terminals to prevent false connections from sparking and causing electrical safety accidents.
  4、 Special water temperature control
Summer Core Focus

  1. Strictly control the temperature range of the cooling water
Daily production requires real-time monitoring of the outlet and return water temperatures of the chiller. Under normal production conditions, it is recommended that the cooling water temperature remain stable at 25 ℃ -30 ℃, and the maximum water temperature must not exceed 35 ℃. Excessive water temperature can significantly reduce heat transfer efficiency, making it difficult to timely remove heat from equipment, molds, and oil circuits, and causing the entire machine to heat up; If the water temperature is too low, it is easy to cause condensation of water vapor, resulting in moisture absorption of electronic control components and uneven plasticization of raw materials. Minor adjustments should be made based on the workshop environment temperature and the characteristics of the production materials to ensure a constant water temperature without significant fluctuations.
  2. Monitoring water circulation flow and pressure
Check the operation status of the cooling water circulation pump daily, observe the water pressure gauge value, and ensure sufficient water circulation flow and stable pressure. High temperatures in summer can easily lead to problems such as excessive water pump load and flow attenuation. Slow water circulation can cause heat accumulation and local overheating. If weak water flow, unstable pressure, or pipeline shaking are found, it is necessary to stop the machine in time for troubleshooting to avoid equipment failure caused by long-term inefficient circulation.
  3. Regularly clean water scale and impurities in waterways
Long term use of cooling water is prone to the formation of scale, sediment, and impurities, which adhere to the inner walls of water pipes, coolers, and mold cavities. This can significantly reduce the diameter of pipelines, lower heat transfer efficiency, and prevent the water temperature from dropping. It is recommended to check the transparency of the water circuit every week and conduct special descaling and cleaning of the chiller, cooling pipeline, and oil cooler water circuit every month to prevent heat dissipation failure and abnormal water temperature caused by scale accumulation.
  4. Standardize the quality of cooling water and replenishment operations
Prioritize using softened water and purified water as circulating cooling water to reduce scale formation; Regularly check the cooling water level and replenish the water source in a timely manner to avoid insufficient water circulation and dry heating caused by low water level. During the peak season of high temperatures, the frequency of water changes can be appropriately increased to ensure clean water quality and smooth waterways, stabilizing water temperature from the source.
  5、 Barrel and screw system
Stable plasticizing conditions

  1. Reasonably set the heating temperature
Optimize the temperature control parameters of each section of the material barrel slightly in combination with the ambient temperature to avoid setting the temperature too high, which may cause excessive degradation of raw materials and increase in screw load; Temperature control instruments and thermocouples are regularly calibrated to ensure accurate temperature measurement and prevent local overheating.
  2. Ensure proper insulation and protection of the machine barrel
Check whether the insulation cotton in the material barrel has fallen off or been damaged. A complete insulation layer can not only reduce heat loss and save energy, but also block the reverse influence of external heat on temperature control accuracy.
  3. Standardize shutdown and standby operations
When stopping for a short period of time, lower the temperature of the material cylinder to the insulation level and do not continue to heat at full temperature; Long term shutdown, cooling and cleaning according to standard procedures to prevent carbonization of raw materials in the high-temperature cylinder and damage to the screw and barrel.
  6、 Daily inspection standards
Establish a summer exclusive maintenance system

  1. Increase inspection frequency
During the high temperature period in summer, the frequency of equipment inspections will be increased to once every 2 hours, with a focus on recording five key data points: oil temperature, motor temperature, water pressure, current, and equipment abnormal noise, in order to detect and handle problems early.
  2. Implement pre shift and post shift maintenance
Pre shift: Check if the water, oil, electrical, and cooling systems are functioning properly;
After class: Clean the dust and waste on the surface of the equipment, turn off the water and gas sources, and ensure the cleanliness and protection of the entire machine.
  3. Advance reserve of spare parts
Prepare vulnerable parts such as cooling fans, seals, filters, oil products, and contactors in advance. Once a malfunction occurs, they can be quickly replaced to minimize downtime.
