Hubei University of Technology is located in Wuhan, the central city of the central region known as the "thoroughfare of nine provinces". The history of the school can be traced back to the establishment of Wuchang Agricultural School in 1952. In 1984, it was merged from the former Hubei Institute of Light Industry and the former Hubei Agricultural Mechanization Vocational School to form Hubei Institute of Technology, which was officially renamed Hubei University of Technology in 2004.
As of June 2017, the school covers a total area of over 1600 acres, with a building area of over 1 million square meters. The school has 16 colleges, 1 independent college, and 62 undergraduate majors. It recruits students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government nationwide, and has the qualification to admit students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan without entrance examination, as well as graduate students who have just graduated from undergraduate programs without entrance examination. The school currently has over 20000 full-time students, including more than 2200 graduate students.
