Wireless pulse ranging base stations can be used for long-distance mutual distance measurement, for crane positioning, bucket wheel positioning and distance measurement, and for distance measurement and positioning of rail equipment to achieve collision avoidance and automation control.


Distance measurement principleAs shown in the figure below, at T1 time, a distance measurement request pulse will be initiated from the base station to the host station. At T2 time, the distance measurement request pulse will arrive at the host base station to complete a distance measurement. The flight time of the pulse between the master and slave base stations is the result of subtracting T1 from T2. Given that the speed of the pulse is approximately equal to the speed of light C, the distance between the master and slave base stations D=C * (T2-T1) can be obtained.


Source of ranging errorAccording to the principle of distance measurement, the distance between the master and slave base stations is D=C * (T2-T1), where C is a fixed value. The main cause of D error is flight time error. If there are obstacles between the master and slave base stations, the time difference will increase, leading to distance measurement error. The obstruction mentioned here should mainly avoid metal, solid walls, human bodies, and other obstructions, which can lead to increased ranging errors. Due to the use of ultra wideband pulses for ranging, their diffraction ability is poor. If there is close range obstruction between antennas, it will inevitably lead to increased distance errors.

Ranging mode: One to many ranging mode can achieve ranging from one base station to multiple base stations, and the distance between the main base station and each slave base station will be output from the main base station.The many to many ranging mode will enable multiple host stations to measure distance from multiple slave base stations, and output the distance from the master base station to the slave base station.
