Do pH measurements need to be calibrated?
There are usually two methods for pH measurement: colorimetric method (pH test paper or colorimetric dish) and electrode method. Of course, colorimetric methods do not require calibration, while electrode methods must be calibrated because electrode method pH measurement is the process of comparing an unknown solution with a standard solution with a known pH value in a measuring battery. This is determined by the "operational definition" of electrode method pH measurement.
What is pH standard buffer solution? What are its characteristics?
A pH buffer solution is a solution that can maintain a stable pH value. If a small amount of acid or base is added to this solution, or if a chemical reaction in the solution produces a small amount of acid or base, and the solution is appropriately diluted, the pH value of this solution is basically stable and unchanged. This solution that can resist a small amount of acid or base or dilution and make the pH value less likely to change is called a pH buffer solution.
The pH standard buffer solution has the following characteristics:
The pH value of the standard solution is known and achieves the specified accuracy.
The pH value of the standard solution has good reproducibility and stability, with a large buffer capacity, small dilution value, and small temperature coefficient.
The preparation method of the solution is simple.

TS-1 has a lightweight and portable appearance, using a 9V square battery, which is very suitable for field measurement or on-site process and wastewater treatment pH or ORP measurement.

⑴ Neutral aqueous solution, pH=7
⑵ Acidic aqueous solution, pH<7, the lower the pH value, the stronger the acidity;
⑶ Alkaline aqueous solution, pH>7, the higher the pH value, the stronger the alkalinity.

meaning

The criteria for determining the acidity, neutrality, or alkalinity of a solution are the relative concentrations of [H+] and [OH -]. At any temperature, the solution is acidic when [H+]>[OH -], neutral when [H+]=[OH -], and alkaline when [H+]<[OH -]. However, when [H+] and [OH -] are small in the solution, it is inconvenient to directly represent the strength of the solution's acidity or alkalinity using the size relationship between [H+] and [OH -]. In order to avoid the tedious calculation of the negative power exponent of hydrogen ion concentration, Danish biochemist Soernsen suggested in 1909 to replace this inconvenient value with a logarithm and define it as' pH '. Mathematically, pH is defined as the commonly used logarithmic negative value of hydrogen ion concentration, i.e. pH=- lg [H+]
At standard temperature (25 ℃) and pressure, an aqueous solution with pH=7 (such as pure water) is neutral because the product of the concentration of hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions naturally ionized by water at standard temperature and pressure (the ion product constant of water) is always 1 × 10-14, and the concentration of both ions is 1 × 10-7mol/L. The pH value indicates that the concentration of H+is higher than that of OH -, so the solution is more acidic, while an increase in pH value indicates that the concentration of H+is lower than that of OH -, so the solution is more alkaline. So the smaller the pH value, the stronger the acidity of the solution; The higher the pH, the stronger the alkalinity of the solution.
The pH value is usually a number between 0 and 14. When pH<7, the solution is acidic, when pH>7, the solution is alkaline, and when pH=7, the solution is neutral However, under non aqueous solutions or non-standard temperature and pressure conditions, pH=7 may not necessarily mean that the solution is neutral. This requires calculating the ionization constant of the solvent under these conditions to determine the pH value that is neutral. At a temperature of 373K (100 ℃), pH=6 is a neutral solution.
