Pistons, piston pins, and piston rings
During the working process of the piston, it will be subjected to various pressures and pulling forces, which will cause certain deformations. Piston designers strive to predict such deformations during the manufacturing process in order to eliminate their effects. Due to the unique shape of the piston, relying solely on normal geometric analysis (such as cylindricity, roundness, straightness, etc.) is not sufficient to determine the shape of the piston. Taylor Hobson's long-term partnership with piston manufacturers has spawned suitable measurement solutions.
The radial and axial shapes of the piston, the high-precision cylindricity of the piston pin, and even the thickness and shape of the piston ring groove can all be evaluated using Taylor Hobson series roundness measuring instruments.
When checking the wear or friction of piston rings and piston pins, or inspecting the sealing surface of piston ring grooves, Taylor Hobson series surface roughness measuring instruments can be used.
Piston software
All Taylor Hobson roundness measuring instruments with straightness measurement capability can measure the geometric shape of pistons. The piston software can then be used to analyze the radial and axial shape of the piston, and compare the analysis data with the design data. The evaluation results can provide specified tolerances and feedback to the machining process. The alignment of the piston pin hole with the piston main and secondary shafts can also be measured through the intermediate shaft or optical triggering equipment.
