In a fluid pipeline, inserting a cylindrical barrier vertically will generate vortices alternately on both sides at its rear (relative to the fluid flow direction). As the fluid flows downstream, a vortex column is formed, which we call the Karman vortex street.
We define the cylindrical barrier that generates vortices as the separation frequency of vortices by the vortex generator under certain conditions, which is linearly related to the flow velocity of the fluid. Therefore, as long as the frequency of vortex separation is detected, the flow velocity or flow rate of the fluid in the pipeline can be calculated.
