AUTOLITE Spark Plug 3136 Safety Performance


To maintain good performance, AUTOLITE spark plugs must identify the root cause of the malfunction. There are oily deposits on the spark plug, and the AUTOLITE spark plug indicates that lubricating oil has entered the combustion chamber. The calorific value of AUTOLITE spark plugs represents their heat dissipation speed. The larger the value, the faster the heat dissipation (also known as cooler spark plugs), and different engines require different spark plugs that must be matched. Deposits may sometimes adhere between the top of the spark plug insulator and the electrode, which can cause the engine to malfunction in severe cases. Cleaning the spark plug can provide temporary relief. If only a few spark plugs are present, it may be due to damage to the valve stem oil seal. If the spark plugs of each cylinder are stuck with such deposits, it indicates that the cylinder is leaking oil, and the air filter and ventilation device should be checked for blockage. There are black deposits on the electrode and inside of the spark plug, indicating that the mixture is too rich, which can increase the engine running speed and last for a few minutes. The AUTOLITE spark plug can burn off the black coal smoke layer left on the electrode. Remove the spark plug and observe. If it is reddish brown or rust colored, it indicates that the spark plug is normal; If it is in the form of oil stains, it indicates that the spark plug clearance is misaligned or there is excessive oil supply, and the high-voltage line is short circuited or open circuited; If it is smoky black, it indicates that the spark plug has selected the wrong type of hot or cold, or the mixture is thick, and the engine oil is running up; If there is sediment between the top and the electrode, when the AUTOLITE spark plug is an oily sediment, it indicates that the engine oil in the cylinder is not related to the spark plug. When it is a black sediment, it indicates that the spark plug has carbon buildup and is bypassing. When it is a gray sediment, it is due to additives in the gasoline covering the electrode, causing misfires; If there is severe erosion, such as scar formation at the top, black pattern rupture, and electrode melting, it indicates that the spark plug is damaged.


The replacement of AUTOLITE spark plugs should be based on the structural and performance characteristics of the engine, especially the model specified in the engine manual. If there is severe carbon buildup in the spark plug during use, a spark plug with a higher calorific value should be selected; If the engine has a hot ignition phenomenon, a spark plug with a lower calorific value should be selected. A multi cylinder engine should ensure that the spark plug model and age of each cylinder are consistent. When there are carbon deposits, oil deposits, etc. on the spark plug, it can be soaked in gasoline or kerosene, acetone solvent. After the carbon deposits soften, the AUTOLITE spark plug uses a non-metallic brush to brush the carbon deposits on the electrode, ceramic core, and housing cavity, and blows dry with compressed air. Do not use a knife to scrape, sandpaper to polish, or dip in gasoline to burn, in order to prevent damage to the electrode and ceramic insulator. When adjusting the gap between multipole spark plugs, the gap between each side electrode and the center electrode should be as consistent as possible. The clearance between spark plugs of each cylinder should be basically consistent. The clearance between AUTOLITE spark plugs is related to the usage conditions. For example, in the CA6102 gasoline engine, the spark plug electrode clearance is specified as 0.6-0.7mm in winter and 0.9-1.0mm in other seasons. When installing, first align the spark plug with the screw hole with a socket, gently screw it in by hand, and then tighten it to about half of the total thread length with a force lever. If the hand feel is not smooth when twisting, the AUTOLITE spark plug should be removed to check whether it is aligned with the screw mouth or whether there are impurities carried in the thread. Blind force tightening should not be used to avoid damaging the screw hole and affecting the cylinder head, especially the aluminum alloy cylinder head.


The stability and erosion resistance of AUTOLITE spark plugs are naturally better than nickel. The recently emerged iridium material has a higher melting point than platinum, making it more suitable for long-term, high-speed use in high-performance engines. In addition, stable chemical properties are the essence of rare metals, so platinum and iridium can still provide timely and strong sparks under high temperature and pressure at high speeds. It should be noted that in such extreme situations, AUTOLITE spark plugs are highly likely to emit unstable and untimely sparks, and may even "misfire", greatly reducing the engine's performance. Only a small dot is welded on the two electrodes, but don't underestimate this little bit. Why use rare metals? As mentioned earlier, durability is the first priority. When the cylinder is working, the temperature and pressure generated by the compression and combustion of the mixture make the AUTOLITE spark plug electrode temperature reach around 900 ℃. At this time, the spark plug ignition is also required, and the high temperature on the electrode can be imagined. Due to their low melting points, silver and gold cannot be used as electrode materials, while nickel has a melting point close to 1500 ℃ and is cheap, so it is widely used. Platinum is melted down at temperatures close to 2000 ℃
