What points should be paid attention to when calibrating a dust particle counter
Date: 2022-06-16Read: 1

The dust particle counter is a prescribed measuring instrument that needs to be calibrated regularly every year according to the metrological verification regulations. Because after a period of use, the optical and detection systems of the dust particle counter will undergo changes, such as aging of the light source, decreased luminous efficiency or focusing misalignment, and lens contamination, resulting in changes in the overall conversion sensitivity of the machine. The calibration of a dust particle counter involves adjusting all aspects of the instrument to achieve optimal working conditions.

The common method for calibrating dust particle counters at present is to use the ratio of two different types of dust particle counters for control, that is, instruments with small measurable particle sizes less than 0.2 microns are called Class A instruments, and the rest are all Class B instruments.
When calibrating, Class A instruments need to be used as a standard to calculate the technical efficiency of Class B counters. However, this method has a serious drawback that Class A dust particle counters cannot be calibrated and can only be assumed to be accurate.
The commonly used 2009 revised "Experimental Method for Dust Particle Counter Performance" uses counting efficiency, particle corresponding voltage, and comparison method for calibration, but does not make any regulations on the accuracy of dust particle counters, nor does it provide any suggestions for the detection method of this technical parameter. Accuracy is precisely the fundamental metrological characteristic of dust particle counters.
