The steps for conducting extraction experiments are as follows:

1. Prepare
Choose a separating funnel that is more than twice the total volume of the extractant and the extracted solution. Check if the lid and plug are tight.
2. Add ingredients
Pour the extracted solution and extractant into the upper opening of the separating funnel, and cover the lid.
3. Oscillation
Shake the separating funnel to ensure sufficient contact between the two liquid layers. The oscillation operation is generally to tilt the separating funnel so that the upper opening of the funnel is slightly downward. The liquid is mixed into an emulsion.
4. Release air
After oscillation, keep the separating funnel tilted, unscrew the plug, release the vapor or gas generated, and balance the internal and external pressures.
5. Repetitive oscillation
Shake and deflate several more times. The operation and phenomenon are the same as oscillation and deflation.
6. Let it stand still
Place the separating funnel in the iron ring and let it stand. The purpose of settling is to stratify the unstable emulsion.
7. Separation
After the liquid is divided into two clear layers, separation can be carried out. Open the glass stopper and pour out the upper liquid from the upper diameter to collect it. Caution: Do not spill any liquid, as it is likely to be useful liquid that needs to be retained.

8. Merge
The extracted solution separated from the extraction solution is then extracted using the above method, usually 3-5 times.
9. Distillation
Add the dried extract to a distillation flask and evaporate the solvent to obtain the extracted product.
