Maintenance and upkeep of cryogenic centrifuges
Date: 2022-06-17Read: 7

Freezing centrifuge: equipped with refrigeration, usually centrifuged at 4 degrees, and the lowest temperature that the machine can reach should be around -20 to -9 degrees. Such large capacity centrifuges generally do not have too high a rotation speed, usually between 4000-5000rpm. To ensure its speed and efficiency, it should be well maintained and serviced.

To protect the refrigeration compressor, the interval between instrument disconnection and power on must be greater than 3 minutes, otherwise the compressor will be damaged.

When the instrument is not in use for a long time or undergoing maintenance, the main power plug should be removed. Otherwise, the instrument may become electrified, especially during maintenance, which can lead to safety accidents.

When using the centrifuge rotor, be sure to confirm that the set rotor number is correct. If the rotor number is set incorrectly. It may cause rotor overspeed or fail to achieve the required centrifugal effect. Especially in the case of severe accidents such as rotor explosion caused by overspeed use, we must not be careless.

When the rotor is not in use, it should be removed from the centrifugal chamber, cleaned and dried with neutral detergent in a timely manner to prevent chemical corrosion, and stored in a dry and ventilated place. Non neutral cleaning agents are not allowed to scrub the rotor, and electric hot air is not allowed to blow (dry) the rotor. A small amount of lubricating grease should be applied to the center hole of the rotor for protection.

To ensure the freezing effect, when the ambient temperature is above 30 ℃, the rotor and centrifugal chamber should be pre cooled, and the rotor should also be operated at a reduced speed of 15%.

6. Polypropylene (PP) centrifuge tubes (bottles) should not be used in contact with concentrated nitric acid (95%), aqua regia, toluene, benzene, gasoline, kerosene, ethyl alcohol, etc. Polycarbonate (PC) centrifuge tubes (bottles) should not be used in contact with hydrochloric acid (30%, 50%), sulfuric acid (10%), nitric acid (95%), aqua regia, potassium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, aluminum fluoride, ammonium sulfide, ammonium acetate, ammonium carbonate, sodium nitrate, chromic acid (50%), toluene, benzene, gasoline, acetone, ethanol, isobutanol, cresol, etc. Polyethylene (PE) centrifuge tubes (bottles) should not be used in contact with sulfuric acid (50%, 75%), benzene, gasoline, kerosene, etc.

7. Centrifugal tubes should be regularly updated, and the use of tubes on the brink of rupture is strictly prohibited.

Before each use, attention should be paid to checking the rotor for corrosion points and minor cracks. It is forbidden to use rotors that have already been corroded or have cracks, and to use rotors that have exceeded their shelf life to ensure personal safety.

After centrifugation, the water inside the centrifuge chamber should be wiped dry, and a small amount of neutral lubricating grease should be applied to the conical surface of the motor spindle every week to prevent rusting of the spindle. If the centrifuge is not used for a long time, the rotor should be removed, wiped clean, and placed in a dry place to prevent rusting
