IKA rotary evaporatorSafety is of utmost importance during the operation process. Many customers do not like to start assembling the rotary evaporator directly after receiving it, and it is very dangerous to do so without understanding the precautions for using the rotary evaporator. Users must follow the corresponding precautions for using the rotary evaporator during experiments to ensure personal and equipment safety, avoid accidents, and ensure the efficiency and precision of the experiment.
What are the precautions for using a rotary evaporator?
1. Please wear appropriate protective equipment when operating rotary evaporation according to the type of processing medium; Otherwise, the following dangers may occur: liquid splashing out; Parts fly out; The body, hair, and clothing are contaminated by splashing substances.
2. Place the rotary evaporator on a stable, clean, non slip, dry, and fire-resistant tabletop.
3. Make sure there is enough space above the instrument, as the glass components may exceed the height of the instrument.
Before use, please carefully inspect the equipment and accessories, especially the glass components, for any damage; Do not use damaged parts and ensure that the glass components are not subjected to stress. The following reasons may cause damage to glass components: stress caused by incorrect installation, external mechanical forces, and drastic changes in ambient temperature.
5. Do not distill or heat substances with an ignition point lower than the safe set temperature of the heating pot.
6. The safe temperature of the heating pot should be at least 25 ℃ lower than the ignition point of the processed medium.
7. Our company's rotary evaporation is only applicable to media that do not react with the energy generated during the processing and thus generate danger; The substances being processed at the same time cannot react with energy generated by other means, such as light, to create danger.
To ensure the condensation effect of the motor system, do not block the ventilation openings of the motor system.
9. Please use rotary evaporation in a closed fume hood or other suitable protective device.
10. Choose a distillation device based on the amount and type of distillation, and ensure that the condenser operates normally. Please monitor the flow rate of the coolant at the outlet of the cooler.
11. In order to prevent the accumulation of pressure, the glass components should be kept ventilated during operation at normal pressure. For example, keep the condenser tube open.
12. Please note that gases, vapors, or other substances can overflow through the upper opening of the condenser tube, posing a danger. To reduce and avoid this danger, please take appropriate measures. For example, connecting cooling pipes and gas washing cylinders or other effective extraction devices downwards.
13. IKA rotary evaporatorGlass evaporation bottles cannot be heated on one side, and rotating evaporation bottles must be rotated during the heating stage.
14. The glass component is designed to withstand a pressure of 10 mbar. The ventilation valve must be opened before heating and must be opened again after cooling. When conducting vacuum distillation, the steam must be condensed and discharged or safely released before release. If there is a risk of decomposition of the distillation residue when exposed to oxygen, please only add gas for stress release to it.
15. Please be careful to avoid the formation of peroxides, as the accumulated peroxides during distillation may decompose and cause explosions. Liquids that form peroxides should avoid exposure to light, especially ultraviolet radiation. Before distillation, pay attention to checking for the formation of peroxides. If peroxides are present, they must be removed. Many organic compounds are prone to form peroxides, such as methoxyethylpyridine, diethyl ether, dioxane, urofuran, and unsaturated hydrogenated quinolones, such as tetrahydronaphthalene, dienes, isopropylbenzene, aldehyde hydrogen, ketones, and solutions of the above substances.
During the operation, the heating pot, heating medium, evaporator bottle, and glass components may become hot and remain at high temperatures for a period of time after stopping the operation. Please allow each component to cool down before operating again.
17. Be careful to avoid boiling delay! Do not heat the evaporator bottle without turning on the rotary evaporator. The sudden appearance of foam or gas indicates that the medium in the evaporation bottle has started to decompose. Please immediately turn off the heating and lift the evaporation bottle above the heating pan to keep the surrounding dangerous area well ventilated and remind the surrounding personnel.
18. Do not operate the rotary evaporator when the evaporator is rotating or the motor is lifting. Before starting the motor rotation, please lower the evaporator bottle to the heating pot position, otherwise boiling heating medium may splash out.
If necessary, reduce the motor speed during operation to prevent splashing of the medium in the heating pot.
20. Do not touch rotating parts during operation. Due to issues with rotary evaporation or assembly, the instrument may become unbalanced, which could potentially damage the glass components. Please immediately turn off the instrument or reduce the speed when there is uneven or abnormal noise.
21. After the power supply is interrupted and restored, this instrument will not start on its own.
22. IKA rotary evaporatorThe power socket must be grounded for protection.
